Be Inspired to Live Each Day to the Fullest

My manager writes a blog. Her inspiration of last week is worthy of sharing.

To live life to the fullest is to make a choice to seize the moment…every single moment…of each day. And, to live your life with passion, allows you to experience everything that this amazing world has to offer. Don’t go through life starving, when there is a feast beyond imagination right in front of you—and remember, inspiration is all around us!

Once you decide that you will not spend your life just going through the motions, it needs an ongoing commitment to develop your ability to live life with gusto.

*******
Live each day to the fullest
Get the most from each hour, each day and each age of your lifeThen you can look forward with confidence and back without regret

Be yourself, but be your best self
Dare to be different and to follow your own star
And don't be afraid to be happy

Enjoy what is beautiful
Love with all your heart and soul
Believe that those you love, love you

Forget what you have done for your friends
and remember what they have done for you
Disregard what the world owes you and
concentrate on what you owe the world

When you are faced with a decision, make the decision
as wisely as possible, then forget it
The moment of absolute certainty never arrives

Blessed is the generation in which the old listen to the young
And double blessed is the generation in which the young listen to the old.

Treasure Hunt – Searching for Rubies

The July birthstone is the ruby, so it is truly fitting that Soroptimist International of the Americas announced their federation-level Ruby Award winner this month.

She is Margarita Guille Tomayo, who began the first women’s shelter for abused women in Mexico. Today she is the director of the National Network of Shelters in Mexico. Her work continues; domestic violence continues to rise in Mexico, where six out of 10 women suffer some form of abuse inflicted by spouses or partners.

Formerly the Soroptimist Making a Difference for Women Award, the Soroptimist Ruby Award for Women Helping Women recognizes and honors the first federation president, Ruby Lee Minar. A ruby is also a deep red gemstone associated with wisdom, importance, vitality, strength, vivacity, power and love: all words embodying the strong and compassionate women who are our award recipients. The Soroptimist Ruby Award honors women who have worked to improve the lives of women and girls through their professional and/or volunteer work.

Before Margarita was awarded the Federation Level Ruby Award, she was first identified by a Soroptimist Club in Mexico City. Every year, local clubs have the opportunity to nominate a local treasure – a woman who is devoted to helping other women and girls. Last year our club nominated Ronda Miller Ernest, a nurse whose humanitarian work has helped hundreds of women and children.

So now we’re Searching in Salt Lake (not to be confused with Sleepless in Seattle). Do you know a woman who is doing something wonderful for women and girls? Email me at info@sislc.org. Who knows – maybe the next SIA Ruby Award Winner will hail from Salt Lake County.
